On The Ground - March 2021

College des Saviors

The Club of Leaders (CoL) has resumed their meetings! Throughout the month of March, they held two meetings with student attendance between 24-28 students at each session. During their reflection sessions, the students thought about sustainability, what it means to be a leader, and how they can be leaders within the student learning garden. As student Subu stated, “A leader is someone who learns and also teaches others.” Student Mike’s response embodied Malembe Rise’s belief of “investing in people not projects” when he stated, “The club is not going to die because we the leaders are here and we are here to learn and when you, MR, or the CdS staff are no longer here, we will continue from what we learned.”

The CoL observed that two raised beds of amaranth were starting to yellow and needed to be harvested. They worked together to harvest and sort the amaranth. Some was used for biodegradable waste to enrich the other beds and the remaining was given to CoL students and teachers.

Dr. Jerry and the Noyau developed a work plan for March 2021 until February 2022. This work plan focuses on the Noyau’s role in strengthening the CoL, promoting the student learning garden, and setting up the Mentor Consultant Institute
