A Triumphant Gathering

The Hebrone Club of Leaders' FIRST Fete de Presentation unites 200+ students, families, community members, and two Indiana University professors.

Quote from visiting Indiana University professor, Beth Samuelson:

"This project is so impressive because it teaches children problem solving--how to work together to use what they have to take care of their needs.  Everyone has a right to clean water, sanitation, and the (Club of Leaders) has found a way to create that here, together.  Their presentation skills were so impressive!  I am delighted to see how far they have been able to come and I'm looking forward to seeing how far they will go!"

This momentous occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including two esteemed professors from Indiana University, an Advisor to the Ministry of Education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and representatives from various local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Remarkable Growth: From Zero to 150+ Engaged Students Each Week

Revolutionizing Hygiene and Sanitation: Two Innovative and Eco-friendly Restrooms Built by The Hebrone Club of Leaders

Fete attendees observe one of The Club of Leaders' newly constructed bathrooms made from sustainable materials.

Chief among the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Club of Leaders is the reconstruction of the school's restrooms—an achievement that stands as a testament to their resourcefulness and ingenuity. These two newly constructed restrooms, crafted from sustainable materials such as bamboo, recycled bottles, and locally sourced resources, exemplify their commitment to environmental stewardship. Emphasizing privacy and hygiene, the restrooms now feature separate facilities for boys and girls, complete with doors and lids for the pits. Additionally, strategically placed handwashing stations outside the restrooms play a crucial role in curtailing the spread of preventable diseases.

Empowering the Community: Community Engagement Through Community Learning Circles

The Club of Leaders' reputation as agents of change continues to grow within the community, evidenced by an increased attendance of adults at the enlightening Community Learning Circles. These engaging gatherings serve as a vital platform, empowering the community to collectively address pressing challenges and explore innovative approaches to leverage local strengths. Through these circles, a flourishing culture of shared knowledge and collaboration has emerged, enriching the lives of all involved.

A Lasting Legacy and Transformative Impact

Dr. Jerry Kindomba, esteemed Country Director of the DRC, was taken aback by the students' remarkable self-assurance. Their ability to apply their acquired knowledge to create a safer and healthier environment for themselves and their peers surpassed all expectations. It is a testament to the transformative power of education, leaving an indelible impact on the wider community.

An excerpt from Fete presentation to community members presented by Club of Leaders student, Mapamu Bilo:
"My name is Mapamu Bilo Françoise, Student from grade 7th and member of the Hebrone Leaders club. At the Hebron Leaders Club, we asked ourselves questions that led us to one question, how can the Club of Leaders make our school cleaner and healthier for everyone?

We were informed through lessons on waste management and clean water, studied germs under a microscope in a health center, took a field trip to a green school in N'sele, conducted door-to-door surveys and listened to guest speakers."

While older students delivered oral presentations, younger students demonstrated proper hand washing.

The success of the Hebrone Club of Leaders' FIRST Fete de Presentation stands as a testament to their exceptional achievements, unwavering commitment to excellence, and their resolute dedication to effect positive change. In this triumph of leadership and progress, we commend these remarkable young individuals, who continue to inspire us all.

These bright young minds, who would otherwise be left idle outside of school hours, are now taking charge, utilizing the knowledge they acquire to guide their community towards a brighter future. Their enthusiasm to apply their newfound wisdom and collaborate with fellow community members is truly inspiring, as they work hand in hand to construct happier, healthier lives for all.
