On The Ground - January 2021
College des Saviors
Since students are not permitted to work in the garden at this time due to COVID-19, the CdS garden is being cared for by the Noyau teachers, Mama Henriette, Ebimba, and Beya Beya. They are maintaining the garden by enriching with compost, watering, weeding, and repairing the fence. Three of the raised beds had vegetables that were ready to sell. Beya Beya and Ebimba represented the students as picked, packaged, and sold their produce. The resulting money was used to buy more vegetable seeds for the garden.
Much of the month of January was spent finalizing contracts between Malembe Rise, the principals , the Noyau, and CdS administration, Jackson and Rodin. The four Noyau teachers, Prefect Kamelo and Director Patrick are excited to mobilize, empower, and walk with the student Club of Leaders. As Mr Kibulu stated, “This work can build our community, it is community work!”. All contracts are signed and Malembe Rise is excited to launch the student Club of Leaders to create a sustainable community garden.
Traffic and safety are concerns of every citizen in every country. In January, electric street lights were added to the Mpasa community. In addition, three traffic circles have been added on the drive to Mpasa to aid with traffic flow.
